    Cathédrale Saint-Gatien de Tours

    From Gothic to Renaissance.

Begun in the early 13th century and completed in the 16th century, the architecture of the cathedral of Saint-Gatien in Tours reflects the development of the Gothic style from its origins (the chevet) to the flamboyant (the facade).

Originally dedicated to St. Maurice, in the 14th century, the cathedral of Saint-Gatien in Tours was changed to honour St. Gatien, the first bishop of Tours. An early Renaissance skylight dome tops the 15th century north tower.
